what a month! life insanity aside, it was a fairly fantastic month for ~hot jams~, and this spotify roundup is a reflection of that. we begin with the title track from Baio’s Sunburn EP, and shuffle quickly though a bunch of other obvious bangers (and less obvious bangers!) from the big releases that have “dropped” in May. this includes Here We Go Magic, whom i saw at the bottle a few weeks ago, as well as Father John Misty, King Tuff, Ty Segall, El-P, CFCF, Lemonade, Sun Kil Moon, and Beach House. Hiss Golden Messenger was also still in heavy rotation. an unstoppable month, and a harbinger of drudge siren-worthy summer jams to come.
in lieu of the 2013 may roundup, last year’s is worth revisiting.

Why Spotify Web Doesn’t Have Playlist Folders
I’m annoyed at the Spotify Web Player for not having Playlist Folders. So annoyed, in fact, that I did a Google search to find out just what the deal is with that.
On January 22nd a Spotify employee (or community manager or something) left this reply on a forum thread asking about this feature:
Hello - at the moment, we’re not working on playlist folders on the web player…. But, for good reason!
If you look at the screenshots from our Dec 6th event (here), you’ll see that there’s a new ‘Collection’ link on the left nav, that will be being rolled out on the web player, to revamp the playlists.
The screenshots on that page don’t do much to reveal how “Collection” could pick up the slack for no Folders. Doing a little fiddling with the URL I grabbed this bigger image of a screenshot of the Collection screen:
It looks to me like, and the page the shot is from offers no hints, that “Collection” will be Spotify’s answer to Rdio’s, and inevitably iTunes’, ‘library’ motif. It is one of the chief complaints about Spotify, from me and others, that it’s not easy to just build a library of music you like and want to browse through when you’re feeling indecisive. Search is great when you know what you’re looking for, and Radio is great when you know the kind of music you want to listen to. Playlists are a complete kludge, only browsing music you already like allows your mind to really roam to see what pleases you.
Based on what I see, it looks like you’ll be able to add albums or songs to your Collection, and then browse it by artist or shuffle it. But if folders aren’t added to that “Playlists” tab, Spotify will have still dealt a serious blow to music aficionados like myself who want to track and catalog what they listen to. If “Collection” functions like a simple dump you can browse through, then that is only half the battle.
Playlist folders better come around, Spotify. Or you at least better give us a good way to catalog our music. Even tags would be better than what we’re having to put up with now. I need a way to organize albums into stacks: What I need to listen to, what I’ve liked, and what I didn’t like. Three stacks, at the barest minimum. Please don’t mess this up.
a collaborative playlist about chrome, silver, gold and any other precious metal you can get your grubby meathooks on.
